Last week wasn't a complete disaster but the absence of Morne Steyn certainly hurt me so I've bitten the bullet this week and shuffled my team in order to afford him.

Before du Plessis' benching was announced I'd already bought de Malmanche who was $200,000 cheaper at the time. Mealamu was his usual reliable self last week and hopefully his good form will continue.

In the locks I stuck with last week's pairing of Boric and Whitelock. The latter proved a great bargain buy as the third best earning lock, though Boric's early substitution didn't do me any favours - hopefully he'll be on the field for a little longer this week.

I was forced to sell benched Ashley Johnson who earned reasonable points for such a cheap buy, replacing him with Crusaders captain Kieran Read - probably never going to be a goldmine of points but usually a solid earner. I was surprised that Spies didn't earn more but I'll stick with him for now.

With the aforementioned Steyn in for Kockott, I'm keeping Carter as he had a relatively quiet game last week and I've no doubt he'll be back on top soon. I'd not like to bet against him as the top scoring HV of the competition come the finals.

Nonu and Barnes earned good points so they keep their places as does Sivivatu, who'll surely open his try account against the cowardly Lions on Friday. I dropped Wulf for Cheetahs flyer Lionel Mapoe, who, even moved into the centres, will undoubtedly be worth his cheap price.

Well, last week was a complete disaster. I take back everything I said, except about James O'Connor. He was a good buy.

I was hit by two pieces of gross misfortune - the withdrawal of Rocky Elsom and Cameron Shepherd. Two of my top earners gone in an instant. Needless to say, I am languishing near the bottom of the pool - my top spot usurped by wiser men than myself.

But, I WILL RETURN! Starting with this week. I've burned through my transfers like the desperate man I am, and made wholesale changes. Du Plessis makes way for the fiery De Malmanche - largely because Du Plessis is on the bench, and the Chiefs vs Lions should be a try fest - rack one up for De Malmanche.

I stuck with Paterson and Wykes, even though they weren't top earners, they are both loosies marked as locks this week - should score more than regular locks, in theory.

My failure of a pick, Ashley Johnson, got benched by the Cheetahs, and likewise by me. I went for the Forces Matt Hodgson, well, because he's cheap. I'm poor right now.

Carter makes way for Steyn, in what may be an indication of the true flyhalf power in world rugby right now.... could Morne Steyn really be the most valuable player in the world right now? The Bulls and Boks certainly think so, and I'm coming around to the idea. He's no Dan Carter... but he just might be more of a match winner.

No changes in the centers, but neither of my backs are playing (AGAIN!) so they make way for the choices I should have made last week - Guildford and Dagg - two of New Zealand's rising stars. Cheap and good. Can't beat that.

I'M BACK! I hope... it's a long road to the top and I don't expect to get there this week, but slowly, slowly, slowly. BOKBAFANA, I'm coming for you!
